Imagine the life you’ve always dreamed of living, with no barriers or boundaries. Imagine a life filled with success and achievement, endless physical vitality, heartfelt personal relationships, and a deep sense of fulfilment.
Envision living every day with passion, having the courage to dream of even more and the determination to make it real. This is where inspiration and strategy touch to produce massive results that will change your life forever.
Tony Robbins has to be one of the most well-known success gurus of this century. I am a big fan of his in general, but one of my favourite Tony Robbins’ principles is the “Ultimate Success Formula”. The thing that I really love about this formula is it’s straightforwardness.
There are 4 key steps to success:
1. Define your outcome
2. Get Yourself to Take Massive Action
3. Notice What Is Working and What Isn’t
4. If It Isn’t Working, Try Something Else.
Key 1: Define your Outcome
You need to know your outcome, what you want to achieve. For you to make a success of your life you have to move towards the things you want. Without setting yourself outcomes life becomes a progression of drifting meaninglessly. Once you define your outcome you can begin to focus on achieving it. The better you can define what you want, the clearer you can describe it, the more vivid a mental picture you can create of it, the more power you build within yourself to go and get it. You induce yourself to step up and take action. By defining your outcome, you will wake up every morning with a feeling of excitement and passion, just raring to go.
Tony Robbins estimates that less than one percent of the population has absolute clarity in their goals. Instead, most of them are caught up in making a living versus designing their own life. Is that what you want for yourself? To meander aimlessly through life, never setting true goals, therefore never fulfilling your unbelievable potential.
A far more satisfying way to live is by determining what you really want to do with the rest of your life. Create your dream outcome. The fundamental key to success is to set goals for yourself. Get very clear about what you want and focus your energy on attaining it.
“You cannot hit a target that you can’t see.” It is therefore imperative that you sit down and decide exactly what you really want, in every area of your life.
The purpose of knowing your outcome is to clarify your focus. The more time you spend deciding, describing, and clarifying your outcome, the more certain you will be about what you actually want. When you visualize the outcome in the finest detail, it helps your brain achieve that outcome.
You and I can achieve anything we want in life. If we spend the time to determine exactly what we want, and visualise it in such extreme detail that we actually feel it and experience the feelings associated with its achievement, our brains will drive us there.
Key 2: Get Yourself to Take Massive Action
Take action now. Make things happen. Things seldom happen when nothing is done to expedite an outcome. Rarely has somebody achieved anything by sitting around pitying themselves, because nothing is happening, so, feel free, to take action now. If you want to achieve your desired outcome, you are going to have to take action. Massive action. It is that simple.
Develop a plan of attack– an “action plan”. List every outcome you want and any possible action you can take that may help you achieve your goal. Brainstorm. Even if the idea sounds crazy, write it down.
When you make the list, highlight the actions that you know are essential to achieving your goal. If you make 20 possible actions, for example, you might have five actions that must be done.
You may not know how to achieve your outcome. That is fine. Just because you do not know every step does not mean you should not begin the journey. What you need to do is try anything you can, and whatever it takes, to get you in the right direction. Once you know your outcome, focus on the process. Take it one step at a time.
Trying to learn by your own experience can be expensive in both time and money. Wherever possible, you should try to learn from others. Take some time, and do the research. Find others that have achieved what you want. Use them as a model. Anthony Robbins, says “success leaves clues.” So what clues can you find from what others have done to achieve their similar goals.
The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is that those who succeed take action. Consistent action is the key to success with anything.
Step 3: Notice What Is Working and What Isn’t
Every now and again you need to step back and see if what you are doing is getting you closer to your goals. This might mean assessing your progress on a daily, weekly or monthly basis depending on the goal you are trying to achieve.
You can tell whether you are moving towards or away from your outcome. You can measure your progress towards the achievement of your desired outcome, to determine whether or not you are making progress towards achieving it.
You must sense if what you are doing is giving you the result you want. Tony Robbins calls this “sensory acuity”.
You need to establish a feedback mechanism. It can be anything, as long as it allows you to measure, as quickly as possible, whether or not you are heading in the right direction. You need to check this from time to time.
In order to reach the outcomes you want, you must be able to evaluate whether or not what you are doing is working.
Step 4: If It Isn’t Working, Try Something Else.
Keep trying until you succeed. Have sufficient flexibility of behaviour so that you can vary your behaviour until you get your outcome. If what you are doing isn’t working, then you need to do something else. You should use your sensory acuity to determine if what you are doing is leading you in the desired direction of not. It what you are doing is leading towards your outcome, then you should continue. If, on the other hand, what you are doing is leading away from your goals, then you should do something else.
If what you are doing is not working, stop doing it. There is no point to trying again and again to achieve a different result by doing the same thing. If what you are doing is not working, try something else! If that doesn’t work, then try something else! Until you get things to work.
The key here is to keep fine tuning your efforts. Make small changes. As you make every small course correction, you will keep moving in the right direction.
Try this out in any area of your life where you’re not seeing the results you want whether it be in your business or personal life. The Ultimate Success Formula, provides you with a roadmap that will let you navigate your way through life’s challenges to achieve all your dreams! Know what you want, go after them by taking action, notice whether your getting what you want, be flexible and prepared to make changes if you need to. Go for it, and never give up!
“The truth of the matter is that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if: (1) you clearly decide what it is that you’re absolutely committed to achieving, (2) you’re willing to take massive action, (3) you notice what’s working or not, and (4) you continue to change your approach until you achieve what you want, using whatever life gives you along the way.” ~Anthony Robbins

Jessica – great point. You know that i believe life is only ever going to be fantastic when you follow your passions.
Wonderful inspiration, especially at the crossroads where I am finding myself these days. I’m taking your tremendous advice to heart and make that move!
Blessings!
Martha, thank you. I know where you stand today, you will take the right road. It’s in your destiny.
I struggle at times with the ´massive action´ Larry! I think we are expecting results too quickly and give up before we have really started.
Great post!
I need these pep talks. Thanks, Larry. 🙂
Hi, Larry!
I like your four steps! You have to find the way to produce a feedback and find out if your plan is working or not. The most difficult part is, once you realize it doesn’t work, decide to move forward.
Gustavol – what a great idea. How awesome it would be to get everyones feedback that tried this or any of the exercises i offer through my blog. My only feeback is received through here in comments, or in my social networks. I’m pleased to report i do get favourable feedback. The problem is that many people like going unnoticed, and would be terrified to leave any form of comment. But as long as we help them to move forward, we are doing what we can.
