I’m a great believer in that you can’t do things alone. We can achieve anything as long as we have the right people by our side. Each of our motto’s should be ‘You can do it, i can help!’
Today’s post has been inspired by a photograph of my business partner Neil guiding his son James to brave a slide at Lego Land.
On seeing this photograph I immediately thought of a quote that I long ago read and which has remained in my mind ever since:
Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. A ‘you can do it’ when things are tough. Richard M. DeVos
One person working on his or her own simply cannot achieve anywhere as near as much as when they have someone fully supporting them. With everything in life I believe we need to be supported by another to truly be able to achieve our magnificent best. That’s the role of a parent for starters.
Through my ill health a few years ago I would have been lost and in big trouble if Rachel hadn’t stepped forward and offered her support and been there for me. She got me through and without her I wouldn’t like to think what may have happened. In business the last few years without Neil, none of what I have done would have been possible. Just two examples of things I was able to do because I had the right people to help me. We all need others to support us, and we each need to support others when they need it.
With the right friends, when you need them they’ll always be there. They won’t need asking, they just give automatically. Are you such a friend to someone?
In life each of us should have a goal to see others happy, and do everything we can to help them achieve that. As a parent there is no more natural instinct than to want the best for our kids. Every time I see Laura-Jayne my eldest with her partner Colin and their daughter Amelia-Mae I leave contented because I see how happy she is. My other daughter living so far away is not the way I want it, but she seems so happy and that in my mind is what’s most important. We should all try to bring some happiness to others. What a wonderful world this would be.
Each of us should go out of our way to help others. We must provide support when others need it, and ‘give our wisdom’ when they’re lost. We all will experience negative moments in life, sometimes they will be major, and at these times we need to be able to count on others for their support
Sometimes even a blogger needs to allow the words from another to be used in order to get a message across to their readers, and today I feel that this can be done through an old song.
Bill Withers – Lean on Me
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain, we all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrowLean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean onPlease, swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let showYou just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean onLean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean onYou just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean onIf there is a load
You have to bear that you can’t carry
I’m right up the road, I’ll share your load
If you just call meCall me (If you need a friend)
Call me (Call me uh-huh)
Call me (When you need a friend)
Call me (If you ever need a friend)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (If you need a friend)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me
Then last word over to Joan Armatrading in her song Willow
Joan Armatrading – Willow
I may not be your best
You know good ones don’t come by the score
You’ve got something missing
I’ll help you look, you can be sureAnd if you want to be alone
Someone to share a laugh
Whatever you want me to
All you got to do is askThunder don’t go under the sheets
Lightning under a tree
In the rain and snow
I’ll be your firesideCome running to me
When things get out of hand
Running to me
When it’s more than you can standI said, “I’m strong, straight
Willing to be a shelter in a storm”
Your willow, oh willow
When the sun is outA fight with your best girl
Prettiest thing you ever saw
You know I’ll listen
Try to get a message to herAnd if it’s money you want
Or trouble halved
Whatever you want me to
All you got to do is askI said, “I’m strong, straight
Willing to be a shelter in a storm”
Your willow, oh willow
When the sun is outShelter in a storm
Your willow, oh willow
When the sun is outShelter in a storm
Your willow, oh willow
When the sun is outShelter in a storm
Your willow, oh willow
When the sun is out
Remember to always be there for your friends. Helping a friend in life lending a hand will transform both your lives and touch the world in a positive way.
Now I’ve got to find out did James enjoy the slide.
