“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman
What gets you going? What motivates you? What is your WHY? What inspires you to put in the effort required to do your very best every day? What’s your passion or spark?
Every one of us has a principal message we want to share with the world and why it is important to us. This is your “what” and your “why” and it’s crucial you discover what yours are and then bring them to the world in order to fulfil your potential .
We all have something inside of us, that matters so much, that we would simply love to be able to bring it to the world. We dream about doing so but never seem to have the courage to do anything about it.
Never be ashamed to own up to your dreams. I often imagine myself standing on stage delivering my message to thousands of people, being paid what I’m worth and fulfilling my desire to contribute, to make a difference, to have a massive impact helping people.
Something disastrous happened to me six months ago. It was scary, and I don’t wish it on anyone, but when all was said and done, it reconnected me to my deepest mission and my “big why”. I lost complete vision in one of my eyes having been diagnosed with my 2nd retinal detachment in 5 years and undergoing my 3rd operation in this period. At just 52 years old, all of my dreams were shattered in a single moment. I could stare at my computer screen or my smart phone and see just nothingness. My remaining eye couldn’t cope and while being able to see long distance with the support of a contact lens it couldn’t focus on words on a screen. Were my dreams of becoming a bestselling author and personal development speaker now over?
What choice did I have? If I can’t read, neither could I write, or check back over my work to edit it, how could i carry on? I couldn’t research or do many other things. Difficulties maybe but these didn’t change what I felt inside. I have a big mission. I have an important message, a huge dream that’s still inside of me. I couldn’t stop now! Nor would I!
I have to admit, it’s been tough. As readers of this website and my other sites will have seen, my blogging schedule has gone to pot. Writing a blog every day and publishing 6 days a week has become impossible. As I write this, I am recovering, or maybe more apt to say I’m adapting.
On a good day I may be able to see words on the screen for 30 minutes before they become too blurry to make out. Within 3 hours I can then get another 30 minutes in. My good eye is learning to adapt. It looks like I’m going to be okay, and the worst is behind me. And anyway I’ve learnt how easy it is to record all my thoughts and articles into an audio then convert these into text. I may have problems with my eyes but there’s nothing wrong with my mouth.
I’m not telling you any of my difficulties for sympathy, and I certainly don’t want your pity. I’m sharing this with you because I believe there are important lessons I’ve learnt from my struggles with my vision.
- It reminded me that I have a lot to live for—my family in particular seeing the development of my two daughters and growth of my two grandchildren. No matter how important my career goals may be, there has always got to be time for your loved ones. This time is the most valuable we will ever get.
- There are many places in this world that I have not yet travelled to that I want to see. We all need to create our bucket list to include the things we want to do, places we want to go, and the things we want to have. Then one of our priorities must be to start ticking them off the list by actually doing them.
- There are always solutions out there to every problem just waiting to be found. In the last 6 months I have discovered a support group, Vision for the Blind who have helped me greatly; technical equipment to aid me in so many ways; software that provides me with the ability to convert any text into audio, change background colour, increase font sizes and to many things to list; equipment to support me in the kitchen, ranging from Gadgets that make a sound when a cup or container I’m pouring liquid into is nearly full to simple little magnetic markers to differentiate the different settings on my washing machine. And as previously mentioned recording my articles and books through audio rather than typing away on a computer with a seemingly blank screen.
- Life’s too short to go slow. We have a limited amount of time to squeeze all the things we want to get done in. There’s no time to waste, so decide all the things that are important to you and make a plan to get them done. Take a look next week at my singlepageplan.com website.
- I have a big dream that I still need to share with the world. I still have this vision that I can radically transform and change lives at a massive scale. My book and my courses offer tools that will change people’s lives that I must bring to the world. It will be my legacy. It’s what I want to leave behind. It excites me!
So, if you are reading this article right now, I have a question for you. What makes your life worthwhile? What juices you up?
Core to my very happiness is ensuring I fulfil my potential. The clock is ticking, there are no guarantees that my left eye will always be able to see. Yes I’m driven by both my exciting dreams, and the hope that I get everything done before blindness ever comes.
I want the same for you. I want you to realize your potential, and I truly believe to do this you first need to discover your purpose and then share this with the world. And, I know you can do this.
You must not allow yourself to die with your message still inside of you, .so it is essential you push yourself to reach your full potential.
I made the deliberate choice to become an onliner. I want to get paid for my knowledge, know-how, experience, and expertise. Changing people’s lives by providing guidance, coaching and motivation. It’s not to do with the money. I want to make a big difference, to be able to contribute to people that need help. This is what inspires, drives, and builds my commitment to doing the hard work it takes to make a difference and be successful in this world. My success will be in the world of personal development and be driven around my two courses, the compass for life and the single page plan.
So what’s the message you can deliver to the world that will enable you to fulfil your full potential?
You MUST determine your message. What would you like to be known for?
If were to leave this world tomorrow, what would you want to be remembered for?
What would you like to create as a legacy?
What’s your background?
What’s your area of expertise?
How did you get from where you first started to where you are today?
What were the lows, the highs and the challenges you had to overcome along the way?
We all have something unique to offer the world. Each of us have special gifts and talents so that we can use them for good and leave our mark on the world. We all must tap into this power.
Our work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do a job that you love which fulfils our potential.
So you’ve got to find what it is you love to do!
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Steve Jobs
Why is this important? People often do their work and live their lives without consciously setting priorities. They’re showing their priorities through their actions, but they’re not consciously set. As a result, they end up living lives and doing work they don’t really want. They fall into a life they don’t want rather than designing the life they want. Don’t be one to make this mistake.
Inside of you the answer awaits you. Take time for reflection and find it!
What is it you would love to do?
