I received a wonderful comment left on my blog by a lady named YogaSavy who writes a blog called ‘Live Laugh Breathe’. Just a short concise comment, but one which is so powerful yet simple. She said:
‘Stress is something we create. If we just stepped back and observe it then the so called ‘Stress’ vanishes. Learning to disconnect with the situation helps.’
Do you ever feel like your mind is going in ten thousand directions? At times does it seem that your mind is fixated with a certain thought or situation? It can drive you nuts! Your thoughts create how you are feeling. Often they spiral out of control and cause feelings that you do not want to experience.
Just take a moment to step back and look at these stressful situations.
Now be a witness of your body, mind and emotions as if you were watching a movie. Get to feel what is happening in your body: tense breathing, upset stomach, headaches, etc. Now check your mind, all the inner chatter going on inside there. And then contact your feelings. Are you depressed, irate or disillusioned?
By becoming observant and attentive, stress will naturally lessen, because you gain insight and perspective into the situation while creating a level of detachment. You see, we cannot control what happens to us. The problem is often not what is happening, but how we choose to react and our interpretation.
Mediation can have a huge beneficial impact on your life. It helps you deal with the thoughts you come across in your mind. It can help you feel less sense of urgency and stress and importantly it allows you to become the observer of your thoughts and feelings.
Mindfulness meditation is an excellent place to begin meditation practice. Negativity is a waste of your time and energy. Meditation has the effect of calming your mind, and clearing your thoughts.
It’s easy to get caught up in patterns of thought, your mind wandering all over the place. Observing these thoughts and not reacting to them is will help you free yourself from their grip. Through mindfulness meditation just observing your thoughts and feelings entering into your mind without trying to stop them will help quiet the mind.
With mindfulness meditation, often it is helpful to focus the attention on the breath, a mantra, or image. What ever helps you remain focused. Just observe your thoughts from within being an observer of yourself.
In a previous post I introduced you to a very simple meditation technique. Take a look at it here.
By taking a step back once in a while, you will notice a positive shift in your thinking patterns. You will notice that random thoughts fall away, and you remain in the present moment more and more. Cultivate this awareness during your meditation practice and you will be happy with the results.
Finally bringing myself back to YogaSavy, it is also a fact that yoga is a great method to overcome stress. Yoga is a combination of physical exercise, breathing techniques and meditation that promotes healthy flow of energy in the physical body and calm mind.

Yogasavy is brilliant, she has a way with words that just instantly calm the senses and enable you to think clearly. I really enjoy the calmness of this post, although I’m not stressed I am juggling so many balls at the moment my time management and multi tasking abilities are being stretched beyond their normal capabilities. I need a moment and I’m going to take a moment just to breathe 🙂
I find it very difficult to stay in the present moment. Meditation is defintely one subject I would like to read more about and try some time! I really battle at times to control my thoughts, they seem to be everywhere and me on a different planet 🙂
