Today I want to talk about the energy formula you will need to know to be able to control your weight. I thought this formula was common knowledge, but I have come across a lot of people trying to lose weight over the years who had never heard of it before. So what is this formula I’m talking about? It’s the fat to calories formula.
Here it is:
3,500 calories = 1 pound of fat
Thankfully, it’s a simple formula, no xy’s or abc’s in there so it’s simple for all of us to get our head around it ?.
Keeping things simple, using this formula, if you want to lose 1 pound of body fat in week, you will need to do one of two things. Either:
- Burn 3,500 calories through exercise over the course of the week.
- Reduce your weekly calorie intake by 3,500 calories over the course of the week.
Now our bodies are complicated machines. Just because you remove 3,500 calories out of your diet one week, the scales may not show you’ve lost exactly 1 pound. Other factors come into play here that I won’t go into detail but over a long period of time, this formula becomes more accurate.
The normal reaction once I tell someone this formula is for them to be like “Great! I just won’t eat a lot this week, I’ll consume the least number of calories I can and I’m going to lose at least 3 or 4 pounds”.
Well hold your horses for a second there! Starving your body is not the way to go about losing weight, the best way to leverage the power of this formula is to use a balance of both limiting calories consumed and exercising. How do you do this? Well that’s a topic for another blog which if you’re a Healthy Lifestyles Living subscriber, you will be notified when this (and any new) blog gets released ?.
