The Path to Empowerment – Visualisation

I am now empowered to provide support and training to help adults get beyond vision loss and live life on their own terms. What are you empowered to do? Alternatively are you someone that feels absolutely powerless to shape your life? This article is written for those who have experienced major vision loss but will also help anyone who feels they are helpless on life’s journey.

When we first experience irreparable vision loss we will naturally be overcome with the illusion of powerlessness. We begin to live from day to day with the feeling that something important, irreplaceable is missing, and that we are now the victims of disability.

Our doctor, thinking he or she is doing their job, tell us that there’s nothing that can be done about it. We feel deflated and now feel our future is out of our hands. From here on in we believe that life is going to take a downward path.

Well, you’re right if you allow it. Alternatively you can take the path to empowerment. Empowerment happens from inside out. Empowerment begins in the mind and will overcome your feelings of helplessness and powerlessness.

Empowerment has a number of qualities, as follows:

  • Having decision-making power.
  • Having access to information and resources.
  • Having a range of options from which to make choices (not just yes/no, either/or.)
  • A feeling that the individual can make a difference (being hopeful).
  • Learning to think critically; learning the conditioning; seeing things differently; e.g.,
  • Learning to redefine who we are (speaking in our own voice).
  • Learning to redefine what we can do.
  • Learning to redefine our relationships to institutionalized power.
  • Learning about and expressing anger.
  • Not feeling alone; feeling part of a group.
  • Understanding that people have rights.
  • Effecting change in one’s life and one’s community.
  • Learning skills (e.g., communication) that the individual defines as important.
  • Changing others’ perceptions of one’s competency and capacity to act.
  • Coming out of the closet.
  • Growth and change that is never ending and self-initiated.
  • Increasing one’s positive self-image and overcoming stigma.

Yes I’m visually impaired.

Yes many things that I used to do that I took for granted are now challenges beyond me.

But do I choose to give up, no way do I.

Do I spend every minute regretting what has happened or hankering for the things I can no longer do?

Do I hell. I have a life to live and I refused to give up on that.

I am not prepared to just survive I’m determined to prosper.

And you need to do the same. You need to travel the path of empowerment which will transform your life so much for the better.

The good news is you possess the power, inside of yourself right now, to sweep away the illusion of powerlessness and use your mind for what it is capable of doing, to lift your spirit, your belief, and go on and make life better than it was before. You possess an innate power which is able to overcome all challenges.

By creating the right mindset, activating your powerful internal resources you will go on to create exciting new potential in your life. Be assured that waiting inside of your mind, is an unlimited power, waiting for you to spark it into action. to open the way to a success way beyond your wildest dreams.

Let me define mindset. It is ‘the established set of attitudes held by someone.’ A mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people…’ Wikipedia. With a positive mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication, hard work and resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.

When you are empowered anything is possible. So your future rests largely on your willingness to develop your highest potential and tap into the brilliance that exists within your mind. Get your mindset right and anything’s possible.

Are you prepared to dig deep to find it, or willing to allow your vision loss to leave you totally powerless?

Your future is unknown. Right now you are seeing it as bleak, a feeling driven by what you’ve lost. Yet internally your vision is still perfect, and will enable you to paint that ‘perfect life’ seeing it clearly in techno colour, just like Josephs dream coat. With your future not fixed in stone in the outer world, it can play out in any way you desire, as long as you take control. The probabilities and possibilities that exist are unlimited. That’s right even suffering from visual impairment you still can go on and achieve incredible things. Allow your personal consciousness, the way you think to interact with your future possibilities and influence the outcome of your future, bringing about the desired change, you’ve seen within your mind.

We who have suffered from visual impairment, struggle daily with many activities and we mourn what we have lost. We long to see more than we can, missing the wonders that our eyes could once capture. We know a picture is worth a thousand words, but now words are by far the more important communication tool we have. Yet as I say, through visualisation our minds can see whatever picture we want. Use this to empower you.

Visualisation is the key to empowerment. By using your imagination you can make real the unreal, turning your possibilities into probabilities.

I share with you here the bonus lesson I provide on my Reinvention University course called Visualisation as a PDF.
