Three sleeps to Christmas. You can feel the anticipation building. How excited we all get over this one time of year. For many the countdown started many months ago. All this anticipation for the festivities which last just a few days.
There is a lesson we all should all learn from this. One simple thing that if we understood it would make far more of our life, making it more fulfilling, enjoyable and rewarding.
Life is about moments lived and memories made.
Why wait for this one day, December 25th to live life to the fullest.
Life is meant to be lived at the point of happiness at all times.
I am committed to being two things. The best person I can be, and the happiest I can be, always. I will love those close to me, help where I can, be with them when I can, be known as a person that can be trusted and just do the best I can always. I won’t demand much in return, but always give what I am able to. I will enjoy every moment life has to offer me.
I know life is not perfect. But you can take the good it provides you and enjoy every second of it. Whether it is 10 minutes of your granddaughter in your arms, a few hours of your daughter by your side, or a quick meeting with your child at a coffee shop on her way to somewhere else. To appreciate every moment by making the most positive use of it allows you to take the best out of life.
Life is what you make it. You decide whether your glass is half full or half empty. The philosophy I have believed in for a long time is that life has no meaning beyond that which you give it.
One thing that every human has in common is that we want happiness and in reality it is behind almost everything we do, it’s the goal of every moment of our existence. So by finding things to be happy with makes so much more sense, than looking for things to be unhappy about.
We wrap Christmas presents because seeing our loved ones joyfully tear off the paper while wondering what could be inside makes us joyous. The time we spend thinking of what to buy and searching for that perfect present is time well spent when you see the smile of appreciation and happiness on your loved ones face when they see it emerging from the wrappings. But these feelings shouldn’t just be reserved for once a year, or these outpourings of appreciation be rewarded through the offering of a gift. The giving of love, just love brings happiness in bucketful’s.
But you need happiness more than just on this one day. For me when things were tough, when life had become a struggle, my health for the first time in my life was not my best friend, and everything else suffered as a consequence. The only way I managed to convince myself to move forward, and not give up, was to focus on the happiness that I felt by just thinking of those I loved. I thought of happy memories and moments I had and the hope that I would have such happy moments again.
That was so important to me. And it is to you. Make as many wonderful moments in your life as you can. Don’t hold them all back to make just one magical moment every 365 days a year, try and make every day special.
Life is a combination of happy memories and moments with great challenges. As human beings we need to make the most of every opportunity we have to create happy times. It’s wonderful to be able to look back at magical moments and know that you can make new ones throughout the year not just at this special time.
You know, we need to savour as many wonderful moments as we can. Every magical moment you can create will remain with you when hard times arrive. They’ll stay with you when once again your life moves forward into happier times, and build more happy moments.
So have a wonderful Christmas, but make sure you cherish your loved ones, and create wonderful memories and magical moments with them throughout the year, take nothing for granted, especially not them, and what you have together.
Just know it is these memories and moments where happiness lies and love rules. It’s the meaning of life and can’t be forgotten.
Life can get busy, your commitments may change, you’ll always have your old happy memories and moments, but take every opportunity to create new ones.
And don’t forget it’s not always the big events that have the most impact. You can make ordinary days extraordinary and create new memories and moments in the life of someone you love. So share that time and give that happiness when you can. What a wonderful world this can be, at all times.
You can make pure joy that not only you but others can carry with them, always!
That is precious!
