One of my greatest qualities as a life coach was having endured my own series of personal crises. For those who don’t know part of my story I lived a great lifestyle, enjoying all the trappings of success when I was rudely awakened, literally, losing my glorious home, going through financial bankruptcy, losing my business, getting divorced and suffering from very poor health.
I had to discover how to get through tough times. Now I can show others what they need to do.
We are stronger than we think. We can find our way back, or we can find a better way of being.
Has this happened to you: Your life’s going normally, maybe even awesomely, when suddenly, it all goes wrong, something huge, something bad, something that breaks up your entire world.
I know how difficult life has become for many, who like me, have gone through visual impairment.
Bad things happen to everyone. That’s a fact of life. But you can adjust and cope, bouncing back stronger, braver and with a purpose.
“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” Friedrich Nietzsche
Anyone who has experienced misery, known defeat, felt the heartbreak of losing something or someone they loved, can find their way out of the depths of despair.
So my message to you is you don’t have to remain feeling lost and stuck.
The facts are, when life gets tough, and the challenges unbearable, you have a choice, you can allow your situation to define you, by letting it either destroy you or strengthen you. The choice is yours to make.
“Life is not the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the way it is. The way you cope is what makes the difference.” Virginia Satir
Let me suggest a few things to get you through tough times.
Accept Pain is part of life
Each us will someday face the experience of unavoidable pain. You cannot let it get the better of you leaving you feeling hopeless, seeing no future, just more pain ahead. You cannot let negativity wear you down. Pain is physically and psychologically stressful and its constant discomfort can lead to anger and frustration with yourself and your loved ones. How we deal with our pain will determine how we approach our future. Accept it and force yourself to move on, making sure you have a life outside of the pain.

Your mindset is crucial
You can do one of two things when life takes a turn for the worst. You can remain positive and remind yourself that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel and that you’ll make it through, or you can just let the negativity take over and see the bad just get worse. It is essential that you bring your mind to find positives, to create within you a belief of what’s possible and which encourages you to fight on and win.

Take nothing for granted
You need to be in a place mentally where you get up every morning and take a good look around in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is extraordinary. Every day is a gift. Never treat life casually. Take on board each and every moment. Let nothing go by without you observing. Waste not a second of your time.

Don’t allow your fear to destroy you
When times are hard it can be difficult to get yourself moving forward and take another step, but it’s a tragedy to let fear hold you back. Although fear can feel overwhelming, you can get past it. You are still in control. You have to face your fear and conquer it.

The end is when you say it is
You have it within you to turn your fears and problems around. You have to accept what has happened and use all your strength and know how to step forward. Everything you’ve experienced has given you the knowledge to deal with everything you have yet to experience. Realize this and set yourself free.

You are not alone
No matter how embarrassed or pathetic you feel about your own situation, know that there are others out there experiencing the same. When you hear yourself say, “I am all alone,” it’s just your worried mind trying to sell you a lie. There’s always someone who can relate to you. You need a support network and its available, because there are people out there who care. Don’t face things any longer by yourself, seek those that can support you.

Learn From the Difficult Times
In spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser and happier as they move forward and get away from their troubles. We can all learn a lesson from our ordeals to help us recover. You must show persistence in the face of adversity.

Don’t give up
Sometimes our hardships can be so overwhelming that we become paralyzed. We’re trapped in fear or grief, unable to take even the tiniest step towards recovery and in these moments what we need is a glimmer of hope. This will come through you asking yourself what can I do to make things better and in what ways can I rise above my problems to bring success and happiness to my life.
