Don’t be Sad This Christmas!
This blog is all about acquiring a positive outlook on life, finding a new perspective to bring happiness into your life, from those same things that currently you allow to bring yourself down.
Today, I spent time in the company of a lovely young lady, who was looking at the forthcoming celebrations of Christmas with some trepidation. This would be her first Christmas where her immediate family come together from their separate homes. Her parents have separated, and her other sibling lives apart from them all. Although they are all getting together for Christmas day, there are things that are so different about this day, that she only sees it as not measuring up to Christmases of the past.
The closer she gets to Christmas, the more intense her feelings of incredible sadness appear to well up inside her .
I find this very sad. Not just for her. No doubts the whole family have gone through a rough time this year. I am certain that they all want Christmas day to be a time of joy. Both parents undoubtedly want to see both their children smiling with joy, and celebrating a wonderful time together. All parents are excited to see their children open their Christmas gifts, and they are keeping a Christmas tradition going in difficult circumstances. They are surely doing it for their children.
This young lady can’t see past the pieces that will be missing from her normal special Christmas day. Waking up early, listening to Christmas carols and opening all their gifts together, followed by a big breakfast. Maybe this part of Christmas will be different, but the rest can still be so wonderful, if she allows it to be.
It’s heart breaking to know how determined her family are to make sure they all have a great Christmas, after all they will be together for a good part of it, yet this young lady states she can’t get herself excited about Christmas. She expects to be disappointed.
Worse still. She is just expecting the worst. Foreseeing everyone being at each others throats! The tension building to such a crescendo that she will be able to cut the air with a knife. Well guess what, if you expect the worst, it is much more likely to happen!
Yet if her mindset could only go from its negative stance to a positive one, she could see what an influence she could have in ensuring she and all her family have a wonderful Christmas, never to be forgotten for all the right reasons.
She still get’s to have the best part of Christmas, and that is to share the season together with her family. The day offers then every opportunity to make a memory this Christmas which can live with them all for many years to come. So together let them all make sure they create an absolutely brilliant day. Full of laughter, and love, sharing precious moments together
You truly can “make the best” of every situation. We may not have control over life’s ups and downs, but we do have control over the way we approach them. And though an obstacle may hold us back, if we can try our best in the situation before us the outcome is always going to be greater than had we given up. As they say, shoot for the moon; even if you miss you will land amongst the stars.
So to all of you out there, all you Grinch’s, try your best to be happy this Christmas! It’s so sad when people don’t enjoy it. At least just for one day forget your troubles and enjoy Christmas, make it a fantastic day!
