People often ask me how I come up with things to blog about, and I find the question strange, because I have so much I want to blog about, I never struggle to come up with a new post daily. Today, my choice was obvious to me, it is the time to reflect on the year so far.
It is a good day for a review, a good day for looking back over the six months which have just passed and look forward to the six months ahead. It is a good day for celebrating our successes and adjusting what needs changing.
The mid point of the year seems a natural time for a review, to reflect on your year so far. 6 months of the year 2011 have gone. Today is the 1st of July. Does it seem like a long or short time ago that we were inviting in 2011, greeting the new year with excitement and laying down your goals? How has your year gone so far?

I’m happy to report that so far, this year has been good to me. This year is going by so fast – I can’t believe we’re already halfway through! So far, I’m doing better than expected. My goals have pushed me forward, and I’m on course to achieving everything I’ve set out to do.
You are halfway through the year, so it’s the perfect time to review your year, check your progress and add anything new that you want to achieve. So, how are you doing so far?
Ask yourself these questions:
How’s am I doing? Am I getting what I want from this year? How am I doing with the vision I set out in my New Year’s resolutions? What has happened of significance? How do I want to direct my energies and time in the second half of this year? Which of my goals still have meaning for me? What is going well this year? What’s not going so well? What would you like to achieve in the second half of 2011?
Have you made progress against the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year? If so, that’s great. Congratulations! My hat’s off to you. Enjoy the progress you’ve made so far…and keep moving forward.
However if you haven’t taken huge strides forward, what are you waiting on? It’s not too late to make 2011 your best year yet. It not too late to set some real goals that can help take your life to the next level…starting today!
Here are three very simple but powerful questions,
1. “What should I continue to do?”
2. “What should I stop doing?”
3. “What should I start to do?”
When reflecting you have to be honest with yourself recognizing where you could have done better. You have to celebrate your triumphs and commit to avoiding repeating your mistakes in the future.
A key part of personal development is consistently making the time to reflect on your life. Reflection time is the best opportunity to put everything into perspective, review where you are at in life, and to reflect on how events have impacted you.
Some of you may at this half way point be starting off on a new journey, and if you are I hope this next period of your life brings you happiness and everything that you seek.
So happy half year to you my readers, and I hope the rest of the year brings you everything you wish for.

Fernando – when we are inspired by our goals, that gives us the fuel to get us there
Hi Larry –
I like how you say that when you reflect on your goal attainment, that gives you more clarity (perspective). I see personal reflection as a means of measuring one’s action; successes and failures. A part of the reflection process is defining what’s gone right and wrong. This allows a person who’s conducting honest reflection to make the necessary adjustments where that applies. Just measuring the progress, really. Thank you for another valuable post. 🙂
Charlie – ty for your insite. It is so valuable during this journey called life to reflect on our successes and failures. It is the only way we can learn, and progress further
Thank you for the inspiration, Larry! I didn’t realize this was the half-way point and I love the idea of a “mile-marker” for reflection on how the year is going 😉
Linda – it is amazing how time can just fly by and before we know it the year has half gone. I hope your reflections on the year just gone bring joy and further inspiration to you.
Interesting post! You actually made me reflect back….I cannot believe it that half the year has gone by. I don’t regret a thing! I am amazed at being where I am and experiencing things, people and places that I would not have done earlier. I am moving forward and doing things that I never thought I could or would do!
I love where I am and enjoying it very much
Happy half year!
It is a great moment to review the dreams and goals made in the beginning of the year!
Thanks for the inspiring idea!
