As personal growth coach, one of my chief responsibilities is to get people to spend time thinking about and believing about their future. Yes, we must live in the here and now, but it’s critical to also plan for a secure and happy future. And during this time period, with January fast approaching, what better opportunity do we have than right now determining what choices we want to make about our future.
I find that this the perfect time of year. It’s December after all. This month is just flying by, have you noticed? Christmas is nearly upon us. Less than a week to go. What a wonderful time of year. I love the time I get to spend with my family, the joy of sharing. I also find it is the perfect time to get my life into perspective, and determine where I want to take it in the future.
I hope you get as much pleasure from the Christmas season as I do, and that your expectations for this period are met.
When you are very young you always want to be older. Old enough to drive, old enough to drink, old enough to do as you please. I know I did, and my children were no different. After about 30 you feel like you are on a speeding train and you can’t even find the emergency brake to slow it down. During this lead in to Christmas the young feel the time is ticking away so slowly, but us adults feel it’s rushing by. Do you feel that the life is passing you by too quickly? Well that’s even more reason than that you should live well now because life passes so quickly, you don’t want to miss out.
“Life truly can be fantastic. No matter where you find yourself today, the opportunity still awaits you. You still can feel the magic and live it day by day. You must allow yourself to move on from where you are.” Abraham Hicks
Making the time to focus on your personal growth and development makes sure you are going in the right direction in your life.
Personal growth means you are in a process of looking at your life, how you are feeling, what is missing and what can be improved, and you are actively working on improvement through education, new knowledge, increased awareness and specific changes.
Jim Rohn said, “Of all the things that can have an effect on your future, I believe personal growth is the greatest. We can talk about sales growth, profit growth, asset growth, but all of this probably will not happen without personal growth.” Our personal growth influences all other areas of our life, and it is of utmost importance to our success and overall well-being.
So during the last few days of this year start to imagine and create a vision of your desired future desired life. Do not spend your time dwelling in the past. What a time waster that is. The only thing this will accomplish is keep you stuck.
Visualize exactly what it is you want out of life. What would you be doing, where would you be living, and what impact will you have on the world.
Try this exercise to get you started.
Step 1: Ask yourself “What do I want to achieve?” Define your desires in clear and compelling detail. What do you want? What do you want to do?
Step 2: Formulate goals that inspire you. Whatever goal you give to your subconscious mind, it will work day and night to achieve. The first step is to write down your goals. Why? Because writing acts as the first step in taking things from the world of dreams to the physical world. It clarifies your mind, and when your mind is crystal clear on what it wants, it finds a way to manifest those goals.
Step 3: Question “Why do you want this?” Find the compelling reason, what will provide you with the drive and determination to do what you will have to do to make this happen.
Step 4: What does it take to change? It’s all about attitude. An attitude of curiosity, a desire to grow and learn, and a willingness to try doing something different. When you can do that, you can transform your life. The right attitude releases your unlimited potential for transforming every area of your life. You have to believe that what you want is possible, and to successfully create the life you want, you have to believe that you are capable of making it happen .
Step 5: Make changes NOW. Do things differently to what you’ve done up to this point. You may have heard, “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.”
Let yourself have a zest for life, and be driven by your passions. You’ll be amazed at how great life can be. Let your personal growth drive your life, and make 2012 the year your dreams begin to come true!
